Our Story

I grew up on a small island in the Bahamas where I spent countless care-free hours in my backyard, climbing fruit trees. Sitting on the limbs of those huge trees, with the sun warming my skin, I would stuff my face with all the sweet and tangy fruits that my little hands could carry. Years later, I experienced my first winter, away at UVA. The snow-covered mountains were gorgeous, but I craved the warmth of home. Using those tart Granny Smith apples native to the Shenandoah Valley, I made my very first batch of apple sauce - leaving the skins on - because I didn't know any better :-). This is how the uniquely tart taste and full-bodied texture of sanaia's original recipe came to be. Over the years I discovered new fruits during my travels around the world. Our range of flavors now includes botanicals and fruits from almost every continent - so you experience both the familiar and the exotic, in every spoonful.
